About Mahabaleshwar:

It is one of the favorite weekend destinations for tourists from Mumbai and Pune. It is also a popular honeymoon spot and an important pilgrimage sites of Hindus as Mahabaleshwar temple is located here. Honey and strawberries are produced in Mahabaleshwar and tourists get attracted towards strawberry farms to enjoy the real flavor of the fruit. Mahabaleshwar Temple:

Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Old Mahabaleshwar built by the Chanda Rao More dynasty. Idol of Lord Shiva is enshrined in black-stone lingam being the central deity here. People visit the temple in large numbers.

Venna Lake: Boating rides on Venna Lake is an amazing experience when you are in Mahabaleshwar as it is a major attraction of this area. It is surrounded by trees and small eateries. One can also enjoy horse riding next to lake. A late winter evening boat ride through fog is worth experiencing.

Town Bazaar:

Stroll down the Town Bazaar to enjoy the local flavor of the town. Jams, preserves and fresh strawberries are main attraction of the market.

Popular Points of Mahabaleshwar:

Arthur’s Seat:

One of the most beautiful points to visit located at an elevation of 1340 mts. It was named after Sir Arthur Maller, who sat here and gazed at the Savitri River, where he lost his wife and children in a tragic ferry mishap. This point has an overlooking view of the geographical differentiation of Kokan and Deccan. 

Kate’s Point:

Located at an elevation of 1280 to the east of Mahabaleshwar. It is famous point for its view of two reservoirs called Balakwadi and Dhom.

Needle Hole or Elephants head Point:

It is located near Kates point. This point is famous for its unique rock-formations are settled in a way that makes them look like an Elephant’s head and trunk. A hole in between the rocks lending the place it’s another name Needle hole point. It offers scenic beauty of Deccan traps. 

Wilson Point: 

It is considered the highest point in Mahabaleshwar at an elevation at 1439 mts, named after Sir Leslie Wilson, the Governor of Bombay from 1923-26. This is the only point where sunrise and sunset can be seen. 

With another popular and scenic hill resort Panchgani in close vicinity (about 20KM), most tourists often visit both places together. The ‘Table-Land’ phenomenon of nature at Panchgani is breath-taking.

 

VISIT PANCHGNI

Move on to visit another scenic hill resort Panchgani, which is just 18 km away from Mahabaleshwar and 100 km from Pune. One can also visit this place when you are around Mahabaleshwar. Some of the tourist points of Panchgani are: Sydney Point, Table Land, Parsi Point, and Devils Kitchen.
