ATTRACTIONS OF PONDICHERRY

Pondicherry is an historic port town situated 160 km south of Chennai on the shores of Bay of Bengal. The town had been under the French rule for 281 years and its origin began with arrival of French in 1673. French colonial influences are still apparent in well planned town, people, cuisine, beautiful promenades and Churches. One full day trip to Pondicherry will take you through the largest French colony in India, especially in the old quarters, with Rues and Boulevards lined with Mediterranean style houses and bakeries, although the city remains very much Indian

Sri Aurobinodo Ashram:

Founded in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo with various farms and gardens is flocked by many visitors every day. It is one of the most popular ashrams in India amongst westerners. It is the nucleus of many activities and trade in Pondicherry such as printing press, Library and also various small-scale industries. The building of the main Ashram on Rue de lal, where Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa lived and died is also frequented by the visitors

The Pondicherry Museum:

The Pondicherry museum houses magnificent collections of antiques and legendary French colonial details in the section of the museum. It also houses bronze sculptures of God and Goddess, fine antiques, ornament, handicrafts and art. Specimens of Chola and Pallava art are also displayed in the sculpture gallery.

Pondicherry Beach:

One can stroll down through its 1.5 km long beautiful beach is one of the best place to relax, swim and Sun bath. It offers cool breeze, enchanting sands and superb seclusion.

Auroville Matrimandir:

It is situated at the distance of 14 km from Pondicherry, just over the border in Tamil Nadu, was opened as an experimental international community, coming from the vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Auroville is around 50 square km. It was founded in 1968 as a place where all people could live together in peace, regardless of caste, creed or country. Soil from 126 countries was placed in a container when the community opened in 1968. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of India and people from 121 countries. Auroville’s motto.

RETURN TO CHENNAI

After visiting Pondicherry, drive back to Chennai. Arrives Chennai. Upon arrival, drop at Hotel in Chennai.
