Fatehpur Sikri is a must see monument when you are in Agra. It is popularly known as abandoned city situated 40 km away from Agra. It was a first planned city of Mughals built by Mughal Emperor Akbar between 1570 and 1585. It was built in an honor of Sufi saint Shaikh Salim Chisti whom Akbar had a great respect lived in nearby Sikri Village. It took 15 years to complete the building but the city was later abandoned by the Emperor himself due to droughts in the area. Fatehpur Sikri is a famous for its historical and architectural significance. It is a blend of Hindu, Persian and Islamic architecture. It is also a ‘World heritage site’ and showcases an astonishing creature of historical significance. It is often visited by tourists who come to visit Taj Mahal in Agra.
