ENTER THROUGH THE BULAND DARWAJA
As you approach Fatehpur Sikri, you’ll be welcomed by the imposing Buland Darwaza, or “Gate of Magnificence.” Built to commemorate Akbar’s victory in Gujarat, this 54-meter-tall gateway is one of the largest in the world. Walking through it sets the tone for exploring this majestic complex.

VISIT JAMA MASJID
Just past the Buland Darwaza, the grand Jama Masjid awaits. This impressive mosque, with its stunning architecture and spacious courtyard, was built by Akbar to honor the Sufi saint Salim Chishti. The intricate details of the mosque’s facade and its peaceful ambience make it a worthwhile visit.

VISIT THE TOMB OF SALIM CHISTI
Next, head to the white marble Tomb of Salim Chishti, located within the Jama Masjid complex. This revered saint is believed to have blessed Akbar with a son, leading the emperor to establish Fatehpur Sikri as his capital. Visitors often tie threads on the intricate marble jali (lattice) screens as a gesture of prayer and hope.

DIWAN-I-KHAS (Hall of Private Audience)
From the religious sites, move toward the royal quarters. Diwan-i-Khas, or the Hall of Private Audience, is a striking example of Mughal architecture. Inside, you’ll find the famous central pillar with a lotus throne, intricately carved and symbolic of Akbar’s desire for unity among religions. This hall is where the emperor discussed matters with advisors and foreign dignitaries.

PANCH MAHAL Adjacent to Diwan-i-Khas is the five-storied Panch Mahal. This airy structure, built as a pleasure palace, was used for relaxation by the royal family. Its design allows natural ventilation, and the layered arches offer scenic views of the complex.

DIWAN-I-AAM(Hall of Public Audience)
Visit the Diwan-i-Am, where Akbar addressed the public and heard grievances. This hall, with its impressive red sandstone structure and open layout, showcases Akbar’s interest in connecting with his subjects and understanding their needs.
