Though Bhubaneswar is also called as Temple city of India but there are many other important things to see such as Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves, which are located at a distance of just 8 km from Bhubaneswar in Odisha. These caves are situated on the twin hills Udayagiri (Hill of Sunrise) and Khandagiri (Broken Hills), which are served as the site of Jain monastery. Udayagiri has 18 caves while Khandagiri has 15 caves. Most of the caves were carved out as residential blocks for Jain monks dating back to 2nd century during reign of King Kharavela. These caves hold significant position in the field of history, art and religion. These caves are called lena in the inscriptions. The most significant amongst all is Ranigumpha in Udayagiri that is a double storied monastery.
A rare masterpiece, the Lingaraja temple is one of the finest examples of purely Hindu temple in Sculpture and architecture located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Temple is the prime attraction of Bhubaneswar. It is believed that temple was built by the Kings from Yayati Keshri from Somvamsi dynasty and later by the Ganga rulers. The temple is dedicated Hindu God Harihara, a combination of Lord Vishnu of Lord Shiva. The central tower of Lingaraja temple is 180 ft tall. There are also more than 50 smaller shrines beautifully decorated with sculptures in the temple complex, which is enclosed by a large compound wall. It is the largest temple in the city and houses some Sanskrit scripts from 6th and 7th century.

The unique thing about Rajarani temple in Bhubaneswar is that there is no deity associated with it. The temple got its name from the red-yellow sandstone locally called Rajarani, which was used to make it. It is said to be known as Indreswara and known for intricately carved figurines and exuberant architecture. The temple is said to be constructed between the 11th and 12th centuries almost the same period of the Jagannath Temple at Puri.
